April 29 to May 6, 2016
If you’re wondering where on San Pedro Island we will be staying I finally have some answers! Considering that some of you are “bed fellows” (Joe/Bob) there should be plenty of room. Fortunately nobody needs to worry about roughing it. We will enjoy a two story beachfront home with an optional casitas and an infinity pool. Pictures and details can be found on the VRBO website.
Comfort and budget was key to choosing this property. The cost should amount to approximately $100 per day per person depending on how many commit to joining us in paradise.
There will be plenty of activities that include:
- Pier, fly, and boat fishing – Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, etc. (Guided and unguided)
- Scuba diving and Snorkeling (Hol Chan Marine Reserve, Blue Hole, Barrier Reef, etc.)
- Jet Skiing, Kayaking
- Cave Tubing, ATV excursion
- Mayan Ruins Excursion
- Exploring the island via golf carts
- Cliff Diving
- Kite Surfing
I’ll post the options and discounted group rates that I’ve negotiated very soon. Also the US to BZ currency exchange is presently 2 to 1 and everyone speaks english.
UPDATE
As TGT 2016 Belize is rapidly approaching the following information will provide some updates to budget and plan for.
Private Beach-front lodging
$600 per person. Feel free to send a check or use Paypal. If you want to send a check and need an address just send me a text or email and I’ll provide it.
Transportation
From Belize International (MZBZ) airport to San Pedro Island there are some options:
- Tropic Air $79.25 One Way (15 minute flight)
- Maya Island Air $72.75 One Way (25 Minute flight)
- Belize Water Taxi – $38.50 Round trip – This will take much longer
I have used and prefer using Tropic Air. On May 6, I recommend booking a flight from San Pedro at least two hours prior to your departure from MZBZ.
Getting around on San Pedro Island is done almost exclusively with golf carts. 2 Golf Carts can be reserved for approximately $76 per person during our entire stay.
Food
We will have a full kitchen that we can use and stock. On our first night I plan to have a private chef cook so we can get settled, relax and prepare for the traditional TGT opening ceremony. As soon as we arrive on the island we will pick up a few groceries and “beverages.”
Considering that our first day will include traveling and a long night I won’t plan anything early.
What to bring
While I’m stating the obvious we are staying near the water and we will be in or near it daily so bring swim gear and water shoes. This time of year you can expect a rain storm to blow through so be prepared with a poncho or at least a bar of soap to clean your stink.
If you have a fly rod bring it!
Sun Screen and sunglasses
Anti Nausea and other Meds
Insect repellent
If you have dive gear, i.e. mask, snorkel, fins bring it!
Currency: Bring a credit card and some cash
Excursions:
The following includes group and optional excursions.
- Fri – 4/29 Arrive on San Pedro Island
On arrival we will pick up two golf carts that we will use to race and hopefully avoid using insurance to pay for damages or possible injuries. A guide will escort us to our rental property. Dinner will be prepared at the house for us by a chef at a cost of $15 per person plus the amount for groceries.
- Sat – 4/30 Meet at our dock at 07:00
After learning over the last few years what a day looked and felt like following a TGT ceremony I thought we should all adjust to the island lifestyle and time change the first day by relaxing, exploring, and hanging out to get caught up. Then I changed my mind and determined that we needed a serious fishing competition instead.
We will be professionally guided in 3 boats with two anglers per boat fly fishing for Bone, Permit, and Tarpon. For additional information go to Belize Fly!
The cost is $225 US per person plus the cost of your fishing license. You can get a license online for a day or a week. Remember the cost for the license is in $BZ. All the gear, flies, and tackle is provided. You can also bring your own if you prefer.
- Sun – 05/01 Meet at our dock at 05:45 am
We will boat to San Pedro Town for breakfast. At 07:00am we will fly to Belize City where our “tuff-e-nuff” tour guide will meet us. On our private air conditioned van you a cooler will be provided with water, soda and beers and snacks. Our first visit will be the the site of Xunantunich where we will have a full archeological, maya, flora, and fauna tour with our professional guide.Your next adventure will be the ATV jungle tour which lasts approximately an hour and 15 minutes. After riding through the jungle on ATV’s we will have lunch (Belizean rice and beans with stew chicken and potato salad). Our final adventure for the day will be the cave tubing. You will need water shoes and a swimsuit. We will be hiking through the tropical rainforest viewing tropical fruits and medicinal herbs along with various species of birds. Then you will sit on your inner tube and cruise through the beautiful maya underworld. After the 3 activities our guide will take us back to the Belize city airport, retrieve our boarding passes and fly back to San pedro Town. When we arrive in San Pedro we will have a representative waiting for us who will then walk us over to our boat and take us back to the house. Price is 300.00 USD per person
- Mon – 05/02 Meet at our Dock 08:30
We will head out to do some reef fishing and spear fishing and then take our fresh catch to a beach area to prepare a beach bbq for lunch, along with flour tortilla, veggies, and potatoes. We will have a cooler on board the boat with water, soda, beers and our guide will also prepare us the best ceviche! After lunch we will head out to one of the best snorkelling locations and we can also do some more fishing. We will be return around 3:30pm. Price is $100.00 USD per person
- Tues – 05/03 Sunset sail starts at 04:30
We will cruise to music around the island and the barrier reef while watching the sunset with plenty of adult beverages including Rum Punch. Bring your iPod! Price is $59.00 USD
- 05/04 – 05/05
You Choose: Fishing, Scuba diving, Relaxing, Exploring, or visit the Hole Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. Considering that not everyone is Scuba certified and might prefer additional time fishing, kayaking, jet skiing, or just relaxing by the pool, I left some day’s open to budget and determine what’s best for you. Considering that Belize boasts the second largest reef in the world second only to the Great Barrier reef in Australia I recommend some scuba diving or at least a resort dive.
